shakeel Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Hello raiders, I'm still unsure as to what is the perfect setup to catch the following Bream - Mullet - salt water - Georges river Flathead - salt water yellow tail - i have been using just unpeeled prawns and have had luck catching bream and yellow tail - but sometimes i get NOTHING! i caught a palm size flathead with just prawns at tom uglies - but nothing else what is berley and how can i use it to my advantage? i saw garlic scent spray being sold at the bait shop. help! thanks!
A.dawg Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Prawns arent that good their smell isnt strong enough i'd prefer using pilchards for bream and flathead in the georges river Bream use running sinker size 0 size 2 hooks and 6lb trace and flathead 2 size 2/0 hooks and 15lb trace Bream use cubes off pilchard or fillet and flathead half a pilchard or whole pilchard on a gang hook Mullet tiny hook unweighted with a piece of bread If your at tom uglies go at dusk stay on the left side and there will be bream and flathead if your lucky you'll see someone catch a jewwie Como baths is also a good place for bream and flathead but you must dump burley in the water and you'll actually see huge bream surfacing. A.dawg~~~ oh really? everyone keeps saying prawns are the best all round bait. Never knew prawns had a weak smell.. what if i try and spray garlic scent on it? or something? will try next time, thanks a.dawg for the advice.
damos Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 You could also try and catch some live bait like poddy mullet (baby mullet up to 15cm) using a home made trap made from a cordial bottle. Flathead love them and bream like the smaller ones. I fish the Georges and have just started using this trap. Caught about 20 yesterday in 10mins.
