katsuo Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Not much of a report but just to share... Went ou to botany bay this morning for a 4 hour session. Arrived at 7'ish AM caught this thing around la perouse... not sure what it is... we moved to another spot, Then my mate from work who just recently bought his very first fishing rod and reel and caught this trev. he was a happy fisherman and addicted to fishing now. Caught on a pilchard cube. thats all.

cupster Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 That's a Kelpfish those front pectoral fins look a bit like arms...useful for maneuvering through kelp no doubt.
bagga Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Yep that's a kelpie. They're a very common by-catch when bream fishing off the rocks. They're a pain in the neck, always swallow the hook, even big baits. That's a good silver trevally.
