adzzy
HI all i have a 70 hp yamaha 1986 model and i am having problems with the down switch for the tilt trim at the controls and motor, it cuts in and out at the controls and you have to keep pressing each time it cuts out and the motor end does not work at all The up button works well at both ends My question is do think the problem lies with in the switches or the wiring where should i start cheers Adzzy
BFB
Adzzy, the first place I would start to look at is the relay for the down movement of the trim. Usually these are the source of the problem and, generally, easy to replace.

Hi BFB i take it this means that there is a seperate relay for the up and down Adzzy
BFB
It has been my experience that most outboards use a separate relay for the up and down motion.
pelican
Have a look at parts diagram and wiring loom here, Just key in year and select model number. http://www.yamaha-motor.com/outboard/parts/home.aspx Haven't had a look but if it has 2 relays and they are modular you can trouble shoot by swappint them. If you can determin which wires you can short them over at any connectors to prove if it is a switch issue or harness issue.
