HookemDano Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Hi Folks, After bashing up Botany Bay for the last couple of weeks for some nice bream decided to go out to the Hawkesbury to my trusty spot at Flint and Steel for a Jewfish session, Well F & S has never let me down and the aim was to acquire some fresh squid and fish the run out tide late in the arvo, well the day was running to plan arrived at Brooklyn boat ramp around 1:20 and arrived at F&S 1:40 ish landed pretty much on spot and baits out on 3 rods and well it was pretty much apparent there was pickers galore as soon as the fresh clean white strips of squid hit the bottom they were literally been scavenged by toddlers. The thought was to fish strips till the run out picks up and the boat arse is fully pulled towards lion island and then we would go whole squid, this eventually happened and it wasn’t long before I had a solid bounce of the rod tip but no run. I picked up the rod and gave it a quick jerk upwards as if setting hooks and to my surprise I was on to something solid, I immediately called it called it a flatty and boy what a flatty it was I really can’t do it justice by describing it with out photo’s all we had on board was a Gaff and mid size net , well there was no way it was going to get it to the net it was just thrashing around and it was to large and we agreed we didn’t want to Gaff it just anywhere because it was minimum and I mean minimum 90cm beauty (without getting greedy or challanged for that matter) We wanted to land it purely to share photos with and gaffing it in the corner of the mouth just was to difficult and it escaped into the depth before I could get the camera out since I had the camera and I was holding the rod, one had the Gaff and the other had the landing net. Oh well that was awesome. Two shovel nose sharks later we were starting to think this would be one rare occasion we go home with nothing. The squid was just not doing it for us and then just like that while reeling a bait in with nothing something jumps on it and well it was a nice Octopus sent from God, after some hard wok we had a stripped leg on and out into the drink and not even 5 minutes later solid hit and run and the results as you can see are attached nothing big but very nice to get one and go home with a tasty feed the flat head in comparsion dwarfs the Jew…. Cheers PS there were a lot of trailers parked on the side of the freeway yesterday that had done their bearings, this is very common on hot days and it seems people simply take for granted caring for their trailers and that is very dangerous for everyone....
jewgaffer Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Nice session Bream Snapper Jew! That jewfish that took the octopus bait could have been any size at F&S.... It's nice to see a big flathead like that as a bi catch when you're fishing for jewfish at F&S. Cheers jewgaffer
Steve07 Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Well done on getting a big flatty & a nice jewie for your efforts.I know what you mean about trailer's on the side of the road as i got back from fishin Jervis bay last week & saw 3 boats on the side of the road broken down & wheels off the trailer, also saw one boat that had ended up on the roof of the car towing it. It takes an hour to do the bearings before the start of each season, saving all the hassle & danger's from something going wrong when your travelling at 100km along the highway. cheers Steve
