G'day Raiders, went for a walk along Avoca this arvo and saw hundreds of dead leather jackets.

There were a few puffer fish and some little hard bodied fish as well think they are a Box fish.

A bit sad to see all these little fellas washed up even if they were only leatheries, wonder what caused the big kill , maybe it was natures way of culling an over population of these guys.. Cheers..

Shame Ray

It is upsetting when you see a pattern of dead fish appearing on beaches. I have seen the same 'by catch' on Forster beaches, but not in the last few years (mind you, I don't beach fish much these days either!)

Gday Ray, nice to see you back and writing up your adventures.

May be natural, I went for a snorkle off Copa yesterday and was suprised by a number of large schools of baby toad fish hanging around close in.

Cheers

Most of the eyes seem to be missing in those shots, wonder is its something to do with the little bird like foot prints in the sand next to the fish. I used to fish avoca, umina, and pearl beach a fair bit when I was younger... the amount of trawlers there was really disheartening they looked like the were mowing the lawn covering every square inch. So yeh my guess is by catch.
