new2fishing Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 (edited) Hi guys, just bought some new fishing gear and its the first time fishing with braid - wanna start lure fishing and soft plastics. Just out of curiousity, with braid, do you just attach the normal tackle - sinker, lure etc. to the main line or do u require a mono leader before attaching the tackle? sorry if the questions dumb, just new to fishing thats all. Cheers Wayde Edited February 4, 2009 by new2fishing
Raii Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 Well, for bait fishing you can, but as you want to go lure fishing, you should have some leader, some people have a general rule of 'length of the rod', uni-uni knot the lines to join them, Fluro carbon or mono depending on what lures you want to use, from previous posts i see you fish around Georges/Easthills area ? Not much luck there for me using SPs, more better towards lugarno.
new2fishing Posted February 4, 2009 Author Posted February 4, 2009 Yeah i might start fishing the beaches, Brighton Le-Sands etc. around botany area - just to confirm a leader the length of your rod would be good for braid?
leatherjacket Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 Hi Wayde, I always put a leader and normally have a swivel between the two lines, tied on with uni knots. If I'm using 30lb braid then my leader is 40lb. If your fishing off the beach, try a running sinker or a three way swivel and a pyramid sinker or one that will not roll around on the ocean floor in swell. The length of the leader would be that of a boat rod, not a beach rod. Remember you want to be able to cast it without it catching in your guides. The main benefit for me is not loosing braid and the fluorocarbon line is less visible to fish. Cheers, Andrew
