Reyman Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Hi Raiders, I am in the process of purchasing my first boat and need some assistance. I have found a boat that i am interested in. It is a 4.3mtr hull from 1987 with a 40HP mercury motor. There is a steering wheel at the front but its not currently connected. The boat costs under $3k. I have visited the boat and it looks ok, the trailer looks a bit rusty but the owner has said it works fine. The owner fired up the motor and everything worked. I am going to try and get a water test to see how it goes on water. Is there anything else i should check. As this will be my first boat, im not very familiar with them. Should i pay to get professionally inspected? Any help would be greatly appreciated. P.S. i have attached a photo Cheers. Reyman
Robbielites Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Should i pay to get professionally inspected? You would be mad not to. It is the best money you can spend on a new boat. Robbie.
VA911 Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 how do you get to the anchor well at the front? just my $0.02c
BalmainBob Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Gday mate, Make sure that you do a REVs check to make sure that no money is owed on it first. YES tell the owner that you want to go on the water with it to see how it runs, take the engine through its paces from slow idling to flat out to make sure that it is running ok Also check the boat for leaks etc. Does it come with all the required safety gear for the number of people certified to be caried by the boat? Also make sure that it has a boat code attached to it. If not make the seller get it affixed prior to sale. AS it appears to have been or is registered this should not be a problem. these are a few of the things that i look at when I have looked at buying a boat Cheers Balmain bob
WANNAFISH Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Make sure theres no leaks and check bubbles in paint. Normally this would be a sign of corrosion.
Reyman Posted February 8, 2009 Author Posted February 8, 2009 Thank for the responses. Very much appreciated. Cheers.
