nelnarn Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 Hi Raiders, With the daughter starting her first day of school there was no better way to celebrate than to head out for a fish. Once all the formalities were completed in the morning we were on the road by 10am. There were 3 on the on the boat, Rossco, Moony and Myself and we had a good selction of bait ready to go, pilchards, prawns, whitebait, and chicken. There was hardly any swell and my best day to date conditions wise. When arriving at the spot outside the heads Rossco become a little green and needed some fresh air. He came with 12 beers and stopped drinking after the first, he loves a beer so i knew he wasn't too well. After the first hour I asked him he was feeling ok and if he wanted to go back in… He said he wanted to go back in as he didn’t think he could make it out there all day, so then I asked him again an hour later and he said “yes I want to go in”. Then by the time we got to the 4th hour he started feeling a little better and become our deckie. He looked after the drinks and food, the fish when landed and kept providing the bait when needed. He never had a fish all day… Top bloke actually, he is welcome out anytime…. We headed back in at 4.45pm and ended up with 17 flathead and 3 leatherjackets. Got a little burnt but was still a good day. Will hopefully get out again next week. Only 2 boats at the boat ramp and no one else on the water…just how I like it Jas
cut_loose Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 Thats good going !! Makes me wanna head out for a fish right now !! Oh well i'll have to wait 2 weeks wont i All the flatties are nice big ones too
Camoman Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 Hey mate nice catch there. Im finding that the flatties are biting consistently off cronulla (or moreso the national park) at the moment. How deep were you fishing and were you a bit south? I went out on Sunday but had to turn back in after only about half an hour at most. I have never seen somebody throw up so much from a messy swell as much as my old man did haha. Unfortunate as the fish were biting well.
nelnarn Posted February 9, 2009 Author Posted February 9, 2009 Hey Camoman, Noticed your a local like me (Yarrawarrah) and that you fish the Hacking a fair bit. I have had some luck the last 3 trips fishing about 2-3klm off jibbon point (also a bit south). about 50mtr of water. Pulled up a 60cm flatty the trip before and come home with 13 in total. Normally it's just the 2 of us in the boat having a fish. Hope to see you out on the water sometime. Jas
nelnarn Posted February 9, 2009 Author Posted February 9, 2009 Hi Scrubworm, Nah mate, we had a pretty good day and avoided losing our rigs to the jackets. As soon as the bait hit the ground we were getting flathead bites. if you didn't feel a bite after 2 mins then you knew your bait was gone. Out of the 3 times i have been out, there was only one day when they were pretty bad where i lost 8 rigs or so. Jas
