Hi all Raiders,

Am after a little help if you can. I am in the process of looking into buying a tinny and was looking at the Stessco Catcher SF420. Does anyone have any feedback on this boat? I want to put a 40HP on the back also.

Appreciate any advice positive or negetive.

By the way i am looking at spending about $10k. I spoke with Huey about a Stacer but i am not that keen on the thwart seats.

Mike.

Mate i have a Stessco 475 Hussar and i have to say that they are not the best riding boat or are they the hest built boats, My boat has been rewelded twice due to the original welds cracking.

They are a cheaper boat but definately not as well built as a Stacer or Quintrex.

I would go with the Stacer over a Stessco if i could do it again

I appreciate your response. It seems from the amount of views compared to comments that fellow raiders dont think much of the stessco. I have not seen one in person yet but i do like the way they look on the web. I was attarcted by the price but would like something that will last about 5 years at least.

G'day Mike,

Firstly congrats on the decision to buy a boat, I personally think you have to be guided by your budget & your own common sense.

I agree with Netic about the build quality of the Stessco, having nearly purchased one last year, a Stessco Skipper 420. kitted out with 40 hp Suzi & on the water for $14k it was the best deal I could find.

The Stessco welds I don't think last well if your boat is going to be treated to rough chop, Netic is the third person who I have heard mention the welds breaking. But , I would recommend you consider how far you can safely stretch your budget & what for /where you will be using the boat.

I spoke to Huey when I was looking & mate I would have given my left nut for the boat/motor packages he had up there, but honestly my budget just wouldn't stretch that far & Huey doesn't accept bottle caps haha.

Have you looked at the Brooker range ? again a cheap bare bones boat but the build quality I found to be better than the Stessco for not a big difference in price, then the Horizon series?.

And whatever you choose make sure you shop around as I saw a huge difference between dealers in price & fittings.

Cheers

Hi, that is why I choose to sell the brands I do. Trust me I could call any brand of outboard or boat tomorrow and start selling them IF I thought they were better than what I choose to stock and sell at present.

As the old saying goes "you do get what you pay for in life" and in the scheme of things the little extra to go to a Stacer and a 3 cylinder 40HP would be worth and come resale you always get that extra and sometimes more back.

Check out the 429 Nomad Elite (if you do not like thwart seats) and on a trailer with a 3 cylinder carby Merc you are not looking at much more than the brand you mention if you compare "apples to apples" and add paint, live bait tank, underfloor fuel tank, seperate anchor locker, bimini, front and rear casting decks, bow and side rails and the like to the non Stacer brand.

Cheers,

Huey.

Have you considered the Polycraft Challenger 4.1? A package should come in a under 10K and it will outperform any of the tinnies mentioned, plus have no chance of cracking welds!

Raiders i love this site. Thanks for your opinions. Stessco is out! Huey back in. I will check out the nomad tonight. An idea of a basic package with a 40HP on it?

Hi Mike, check your PMs when you get a minute.

Cheers,

Huey.
