Any education on JB winds would be appreciated. the southern side of the bay will be fishable, ie murrays for squid and bowen island for kings. let us know how you go if you head out mate. Cheers, Adrian.
netic Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Mate JB itself will be unfishable, Any southerly in JB will turn into a nightmare real fast, be very careful there, one of the worst bays i have seen when it comes to southerlys
TomKat Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Anywhere on the South side of the bay would be bearable. Around the inside of Bowen island would be the go. If u like calamari then Murrays beach boat ramp or around Vincentia is worth a try.
benfot Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Mate the wind down there is almost always a problem. Usually the nor-easter is blowing pretty strongly at this time of year and it makes it pretty choppy pretty quickly. The best fishing weather seems to be when a LIGHT southerly is blowing... We've been out fishing on the northern side of the Bay before when a serious southerly came in. Took us something like two hours to get back across to the ramp at Murray's (and we've got a 4.5m 70hp so not absolutely tiny) and was at times quite frightening. One guy went up a wave and only had his motor left in the water at one stage - said it was 50/50 which way he fell. Luckily he was ok and had the Coast Guard come out from Creswell to escort the smaller boats back in. Certainly have to be more careful in southerly storms down there than in the harbour. But has been good fishing recently down there...!
punchn2 Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Yeah give it a miss mate the bay is a nightmare in a strong S/E, you could fish murrays for squid n greenpatch for hammerheads n whalers but thats bout it...
Steve07 Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Be very careful getting out between the heads at JB in the 25knot + winds & a big swell running, it gets very dangerous in the conditions we have at the moment. You might be able to sneak out for a fish on the southern side of the bay,but towards the northern side of the bay near the cliffs it will definately get way too rough.
