fishing after a big fresh

the recent extended period off rain has me buzzing as this only happens in summer every 3 years or so

the last time it happened i waited till the first fine day and hit the joey early

there was a norwester blowing pushing the chocky milk hard up against the head land and i fished the green and chocky water on the point

without a word off a lie i took a big bag off pillys and caught a tailor with every pilly i was fishing the free standing pilla on the north side off the point and thinking i was the only one catching fish[as i could'nt see anyone else]i walked around the point only to find every one was amungst the fish

there were tailor hitting the pillys trevs taking pilly fillets and every now and then all the fish would jump out off the water in panic[sharks]

i hooked a big somthing on a full tailor fillet hopping it was a jew but proberly a shark

so gear up raiders and hit the mouths off any river as soon as we get a good day

best off luck were ever you fish gary

Top advice Gary  I've just put the heater on, wait till this stay home weather gets back to normal, for me it's first stop your place, maybe no Gundermans till later ay.

Cheers

hi byron, dont disgard gundermans after a good lot of rain. I remember fishing at the wind sock about 15years ago in may and the water was like chocolate after a weeks solid rain, there were that many fish around that it was impossible to fish with any more than 1 rod. Every prawn was a fish! mainly small soapies but a lot of flathead also and I also caught several soapies around 10lb over 3 trips in a week.

I have a feeling that the rain may have caused the prawns to run on mass because most fish were caught on the run out tide.

Although I still caught some on the run in, the fishing was much slower.

As soon as the tide turned and started to run out ( which is when the prawns would have been moving) the fishing was unbeleivable!

Im not saying that this is the case at the moment but you never know.

Pete.

Hi Tide'n'knots Re your post, Gary/Brickman and I have spoken in the past about doing a landbased jewfish session off a private jetty up at Gunderman and I'm waiting for a report back from the property owner to let me know when they have been getting decent size jewfish like they were catching early last year..... What it is you need a couple of beach rods to cast baits into a particular spot. I don't mind giving this information out as they are other jettys with suitable water in the Gunderman Laughtondale area.....

Anyway Pete sounds like you are reasonably handy to the car ferry at Wiseman's, and you are welcome to join in up there without the usual blindfold and there is plenty of room to set out rods from the side of the jetty as well.

Cheers

We've had over 200mm of rain here over the last 2 days.

The rivers & drains are rising. It looks like I'll be introducing Slinky & Dan to Jew spinning tommorow arvo off the Tweed breakwall.

I love fishing a fresh. :biggrin2:

Cheers,

Grant.

Excellent topic and a good reminder for everyone Gary! Like everyone else I keep thinking upriver whenever the downriver sections don't do well.

I.E. Grant, fishing in the rain and catching your 2X 25 kilo Narrabeen Jew after the floods

Hi Clem In regard to doing an upriver landbased jewfish session after the water has started to clear, this particular private property in the Gunderman area, is a place where trespassers are either chased away by the dogs or shot off the jetty by an old bloke who sleeps on the verandah :1yikes: However, being a friend of Don's, you get temporary safe entry after being sworn in to silence, and subject to the following conditions and other fluctuations, imposed restrictions, and other variables on the night, including sudden dismissal and loss of burial rights.

1. Full night session supply of food and drinks etc and a sufficient supply of Kit Kats is essential for the dogs.

2. No artificial baits for fishing or for the dogs either :biggrin2:

3. Maximum rods 2 beach rods and 1 rod for live bait.

3. All rigs and weights to be identical, minimum line 40lb mono or heavier braid line

4. Regular landbased blokes naturally bring a bucket and aerator, pilchards and a large bucket of fresh burley mix without additives and a bottom burley container with rope for launching in close up current.

5. Fold up chair, beach rod holders

6. Maximum take home of 1 jewfish over 450 and under 10 kilos per person all others to be photograph and released.

7. No hit and run merchants everybody's a captive audience till I hour after sun up on the Sunday morning.

8 -20 To be determined.

The surroundings are picture book stuff. Just thinking, a couple of others would be handy to have to do their bit, and there is plenty of room at the sides nearby and my mate George, Gary and myself etc can sit and fish off the Jetty.

I'll start to get this together and hopefully have this Gunderman session before I have my back operation on the 18th March but I need to know about availabilty for a 4pm start on a Saturday.

Cheers

Hey Byron , I can give a good character reference to Clem, he is very keen but I can only really help him out with boat possies not land based.I am hoping to pick up my boat from the welders tomorrow and give the HB a bash mid-morning with sp's been having a lot of success before the big wet.

Byron thanks for the feedback.I can appreciate the rules and do not have a single problem with it.Those dogs however are going to need a solid diet after all the kitcats.I might even share with them when no-one is looking.(HA! HA!)

Don thanks for the thumbsup on your side and I was wondering why you were so quiet after our last chat but I realise now that you had boat issues.Myself and hopefully you can accomodate Robert look impatiently forward to you asking us to join you on a session.Have no problem with using plastics and covering our share of the costs involved.

Gary it would be good to catch up again.

Cheers Clem
