The Poacher Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 Hi Raiders, Fished out of Terrigal haven this morning. Catching livies was the easy, and they were a great size. With a early high tide, things were looking good. Had a few fuel problems on the way out (engine seemed to have trouble sucking fuel and we had to stop a few times). I was debating wether to come home, anyway we persevered and got the livies in the water. Couple of half hearted hits when we first got there and that was it. There were massive red patches all over my sounder, which usually means buckle up for a good time. However, no hits. In fact I have never seen so many schools of fish, and they wouldnt even come up a burley trail. Any thoughts on what was going on? it is a pretty reliable spot, and I am almost certain they were kings. Current was running from the north and you could see where it hit the shallow water at the bommie and passed up over it. Should have been ideal. Any ideas would help, as I need some councelling. Disappointed. The Poacher
squid hunter Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 bad luck The Poacher just one of those days ay regards Squid Hunter
Bruce the Postie Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 Thats not what i wanted to hear Poacher, I was thinking about a sly trip around the bommies tomorrow morning. Bad luck about the dud trip mate. Cheers, Bruce
copafisher Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 Sorry to hear you had no luck Poacher, the water temps supposed to be down around 18 at the moment. The fish reports in the papers are indicating theres been little luck until the water warms up. We found it like that a few months back to, lots on sounder but nothing biting, was cold then. Did you try any other baits or jigs/lures. I have bought a couple of the Lucanus type jigs, so Im dying to get out and give them a try. Maybe tomorrow ? How far out were you, dont know the water of Terrigal yet and dont have a GPS, so I have just looked round looking for likely spots/fish last few times. Better luck next time
Basil D Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 thats fishing, go back tomorrow, bet you get somthing
The Poacher Posted February 21, 2009 Author Posted February 21, 2009 Thanks for the encouragement. Just in response to the comments. Water temp was 21.3, and we tried yellowtail and freshly frozen squid whole. Also ran poppers and raiders. We were in 11 to 18 metres of water. Just need to get back on that horse and have another crack. The Poacher
