More like it'll find the bottom and snag you in a crevice. But never tried it off a float or dangling in mid-water. Maybe worth a go. I don't think it'll scare off a kingie.

Cheers.

Just wondering if it's possible to use small occies as live bait ? Anyeone tried this ? or would this just scare off the kings?

If your fishing out of a boat, live octopus with the tentacles cut off or shortened and all but cut off just below the last suction cap, just enough to keep the tentacles pulsating but ineffective, make excellent baits on stand out or wire paternosta rigs if used on a drop style fixed sinker and raised clear of the bottom......... the weight of the fixed sinker has to be heavy enough to hold the line upright and close enough to vertical.......... You should also use newly cut tentacles separately on other lines with normal running sinkers or snapper style rigs, just heavy enough to hold the sinker on the bottom and leave some roughly cut side flesh on each tentacle ........ The larger the octopus is the longer the tentacle will wriggle and that will be long enough to attract attention as it hits the water, sinks towards bottom and/or flutters away in the current....... The pulsating tentacles should also be rigged separately on paternostas on the same line just below the live octopus's body to give the appearance that the octopus has already been attacked and injured.

Octopus is a valuable bait particularly when fished maimed as described above.

Cheers
