greg123 Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 Hey raiders, i was hoping some of you may be able to shed some light on some floating fish i saw the other day. I was at curl curl beach and noticed lots of leatherjackets (about 20cm) floating in the water and washed up on the beach. It was after heavy rains and thought it may be from a rush of fresh and maybe polluted water from the curl curl outlet lagoon type system off the beach or due to the recent drop in sea temps.. or something else? Cheers
jamesds Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 I'm the one that brought this up in a thread a few weeks ago. It was officially (by NSW Fisheries, I think) confirmed as trawler by-catch. The leatheries aren't worth keeping for the markets so they throw them back, and they get washed up on the beaches.
