diver1 Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 me mate showed me the other day how to catch and rig live poddy mullet, ive had a lot of sucess with soft plastics but lately ive hit an unbelieveable dry spell with them, (cant catch a thing) so i wana persist with me sp,s but also have a livie out on another rod, does anyone else hhave much sucess with the live poddies? r there any tips i need to know? or do i just wack the hook thru without hitting the backbone and throw it out?
slinkymalinky Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 G'day Diver, If you're drifting, try pinning the poddies through the nose instead of the back... they'll live a lot longer that way. My preferred rig for that sort of livebaiting is a simple running ball sinker above a swivel to which is tied a 10-15lb fluorocarbon trace, then a 3/0 Black Magic KL circle hook. No flattie can resist a small live poddie or herring. Cheers, Slinky
Davemmm Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 With smaller poddies I like to pin them throught the tail. If put the hook in less than a third of the way back from the tip of the tail they swim really well and survive for a long time. The other thing you need to know is that disregard what all the sponsors claim an sp is still only an imitation the real thing wins hands down. (just thought I'd throw that in for sport ) Dave
diver1 Posted February 25, 2009 Author Posted February 25, 2009 thanks guys, ill definetly be drifting, unless its blowen a gail and im moven to fast.
brendong Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 RE Breambo's, Flatty's etc. If you are trying to maintain your spot with an electric in a current its pretty hard to have a livie out I've found....because you are trying to pay attention to where you livie and your line. And hit the right areas whilst casting and watching for you line to belly on the SP, which might mean you miss a nudge..sometimes bites are so light that you can just see your line move and then you hit rather than waiting for the nudge.....my advice is 'Stay on target' and just focus on your Sp or just livie for a sesh to mix it up. Re Jews / Kings If however you are anchored and you have a live yakka, squid, Slimmy etc down there trying to entice a Jew or King, then SP your crack off at the same for a king or Jew on placcy.....beats just waiting around....
diver1 Posted March 1, 2009 Author Posted March 1, 2009 put me trap down in a creek near the boat ramp, got no poddies just a little crab, its down there again now.
