archilles2 Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 (edited) Hey all, Looks like i won't get a chance to get me some squid b4 i head out on Saturday morning, as i'm working! Last week i caught a couple myself and kept them live until i got home. I later placed them in a zip log bag and used them the next day ( after putting them in the fridge ) and yes i caught a nice kingy Buttt this weekend i might not get a chance. Anyone know any bait shops that sell very fresh squid ( not touched with fresh water ) . I live in the St. George area. I've been to the fish markets but they're all on ice and pink - no green eyes. Thanks fello fishos Edited February 25, 2009 by archilles2
braddles Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Syd fish markets of a sunday mate... they SOMETIMES really early in the mornings have live squid still in the water... bit of a rareity but... one the squid touches FRESH i wouldnt go near it..... Its pretty easy to catch squid , what jigs you using?
King slayer Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Mate, They're a bit like hens teeth lately. might have to catch some. Even he really good frozen ones are no match for freshies.
Fisherman5 Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 mate had a bit of luck on kings with the calafornian squid I think its called - comes in the little boxes at some tackle shops, but nothing beats fresh or live squid

Thanks fello fishos Hi Archy I'm not sure if newly netted arrows are still in short supply but they were for quite a while because of the leather jacket plague this season. Perhaps the squid you caught and froze and hooked the kingfish on were calamari squid. Green eyes are calamari squid and arrows don't have green eyes whether they are fresh or frozen but they go pink if they are left out of the esky for too long or if they are re-frozen. Cheers jewgaffer
hooklineandsinker Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 you could try or ring macs bait bar at blakehurst last sunday he had locally caught squid much better pigment and colour and unfrozen varieties it cant hurt to call as its still close to your area but in the end it aint fresh/ live squid
