puregeek Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Hey all, I was looking at hiring a boat from the boat shed around Mooney Mooney and was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on where i should go (considering that tinneys cannot go past the corner of little wobby beach - this is what the boat hire guy told me). I'm thinking prawns, worms and nippers as bait. But as i am unfamiliar with fishing around there any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in Advanced.

Hi puregeek to Fishraider The corner of Wobby Beach is known as Croppy Point. Croppy Point has a wide drop into deepwater not far out from it and the water shallows out at the shoreline on both sides.... That area would be as good as any if you anchor just inside the point on the Wobby side and be there as close to daybreak as you can. You'll get bream and flathead there on your Hawkesbury prawns and your worms and nippers with a chance of catching estuary perch anywhere along the shoreline to beyond the Wobby houses. It would pay to try and get hold of some fresh arrow squid and always have two jewfish rods handy, one rod for the shallow water where it's not clear and another rod for the deepwater behind you. Jewfish have been caught all along that area as far as the oyster leases on the left of the houses in the gully between the two mountains upriver from the last wobby house and this area known as the tanks and is also an excellent bream spot. The jew in the photo is one I caught in the area I'm pointing you to with my grandson and one of our Queensland members and it was in the same month last year, in the hot midday sun. This area is a serious jewfish area, so remember to fish large Hawkesbury arrow squid in deepwater at some stage of your session. Hope this gives you a boost and makes you as enthusiastic as you need to be. Cheers jewgaffer

I have been looking around to see get an understanding of which area's your referring to. I have looked on google maps and have come up with this little diagram. With the green dot where your telling me to anchor and fish from. I also spoke to the boat shed again and they told me that they cannot get their hands on any arrow squid. Are they hard to catch?. Sorry about all the questions. Puregeek. Edited February 26, 2009 by puregeek

Hi puregeek Any chance of putting that little green dot on top of a mountain somewhere and replacing it with a skull and crossbones to show that mark as a hazardous area subject to frequent underwater eruptions of bile gas Cheers jewgaffer As to fresh arrows ask any of the locals in the township at Brooklyn .
