Hodgey
G'Day all, I have been trolling through the forum pages for a couple of hours looking to answer a member's question: There was a thread on here a while ago where guys had posted pictures of how they fixed an allround white light to the bimini frame with a clamp. It may have been removed, or it may be in an obscure post. Can someone either: - Post some photos of the requested set up or - Post the link in a response? Any assistance would be appreciated! jewgaffer
Can anyone help this member out? Hodgey Ian he could have a free standing rocket launcher made up to sit at the back of the bimini, independent of it and pre-wired thru the hollow tube of the unit and have his his all round light mounted in the centre and he should have room for 4 rod holders each side of the light, making it 8 alltogether with enough space in between for the reels. Hope this helps you get this one taken care of. Cheers Ian jewgaffer

pelican
The post from memory was about running wires through the tubes to lights or GPS - brain fade I can't remember Bit hard to give good advice without a photo of boat and bimini set up and how it folds. The way I have seen it done is to simply rivot or self tapper a 360deg all round white nav light . Depends on shape of bimini but mount it so there is no glare on the helm area and if it happens to light the deck area would be OK. BI -AS have a folding version that is 270mm high that folds but it would be high enough to bee seen all round and keep the Authorities happy. Cat No: 5460LED Folding Pole Light LED With 12V LEDs.360° Hinged at base to allow pole to fold to horizontal. Height 270mm. $39.90 Fender Basket Rail Clamp Allows fender baskets to be fitted to rails of 22mm, 25mm or 30mm diameter. Mounting can be vertical, horizonal or at an angle. Plastic and stainless construction. SKU: : 4842 $24.90 There is a cheaper rail mount - probably the other chain store $-5-6 edit - found it Cat No: 5023A Optional Rail Mount Adaptor and Cat No: 4657 Rail Mount Clamp / Bracket Two piece plastic clamp with stainless fasteners. Ideal for making ‘do it yourself’ brackets. For 22 to 25mm diam. rails. SKU: : 629060 $6.50 If the base wasn't going to be stable on the bimini I would just rivot a small stainless plate on there first first or there will be a "rail mount" version or plastic spacer that curves around the tubing. Run the wires inside tube if you could be bothered or just zip tie them on Pel Edited February 28, 2009 by pelican

Cheers Ian jewgaffer Ian, I thought I would add some more detail to make a bird of it and give the member in question a few options to consider........He could have the rocket launcher made up in polished alloy at a fairly good price provided that he measures up and provides a clear working diagram and then approaches a few light engineering shops for their best price to make it for him......... He can have the wiring concealed under the gunnels and wired into the side light connections and that way he could have a separate switch for the all-round light so that it turns on with the side lights go on when the boat is drifting or under way, and can be switched on separately at anchor....... He could also add a second starter battery for his lights etc or a deep cycle battery if he intends running a lot of accessories at night and particularly if he wants to make provision to run an electric motor on a separate battery at a later stage.... As to mounting the all round light on the top of the circular rocket launcher, he could cut a piece of aluminium angle the same size as the light base and only a small hole needs to be drilled in the aluminium plate for the wiring and the the light and the plate can be bolted thru the tube together using counter sunk bolt heads underneath the top bar of the rocket launcher and have the nuts and spring washes on top and out of sight. LittleNoah
The post from memory was about running wires through the tubes to lights or GPS - brain fade I can't remember Pel Thanks Pel , I'm the member in question and the post you are thinking of is spot on. It was about running wires through the tubes for lights, can't find it but . I was trying to find the pictures of how other guys mounted them to the bimini more so than how they were wired up, but thanks mate, atleast there's someone who remembers it and I'm not losing the plot Also thanks to Jewgaffer for the great ideas but really just want to mount a light quick, cheap and easy. The rocket launcher sounds great but the boat in question is my old mans (I don't have my own yet, we gotta buy a house 1st, ) and I'm still working on him for a rocket launcher. Thanks again for your help guys
pelican
Have edited my post with a couple of other cheaper parts to mount on. Visit the chain stores and look through the rail mount parts and see what works with the all round white fitting you select.
