olitay Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Hi guys, I visited a friends at their new house on the weekend and they mentioned to me that the previous owners stocked the dam with various fish. Not knowing exactly what was in there I took up a pack of white slam baits and picked up a pack of spinner jig heads from gofish on the way. Any how a few casts produced this Murry Cod. Now im not quite sure but I thought these guys were not meant to be kept in Dams I took a few shots and put him back.
Basil D Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 (edited) beutiful fish, good you for putting it back Edited March 2, 2009 by Groper
damobows Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Mate they live no problems at all in dams all they need is a bit of cover (some sort of snag underwater) and they will live and grow without a doubt - most of the biggest cod in the New England region are caught out of dams of varied sizes. Cheers Damo
Moro Mou Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Nice one. They are beautifully marked at this size. As Damo said no problems with keeping in dams. All native fish can be purchased as findlings to stock in farm dams.
olitay Posted March 2, 2009 Author Posted March 2, 2009 Yeah they had a heap of silver perch in there, nice size too. About 45 cms. They tell me there may be some bass in there also!
olitay Posted March 6, 2009 Author Posted March 6, 2009 Cheers Wako! im happy to share my secret cod spot in exchange for your Kingy spot!! your on fire brother!
high_speed_metal Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 We stocked Cod, Yella's and silver Perch in 3 dams around our farm, They all went well, Not as many Cod survived as the perch, but they still lived.
Captain Pugwash Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 They definitely live in dams. Everywhere from QLD to Victoria. And also pretty close to Sydney
glennmreid Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Nice cod. I thought I was seeing things when you said Dural. It is amazing what fish you can catch at a farm dam.
