rmzbeast Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Hi Ryan For me i would rather the harbour it has been pretty good to me over the past few years but in saying that the hawksbury has too.
nic_ally_king Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Harbour can be easier if you don't know where to go (as it's crowded you can see where/what everyone else is doin g) and you can catch pelagics. Is also very consistent. Hawkesbury is good too but from my exp need to know where to go and what the tides, currents etc are doing a little better. Different fish of course. There's some good videos on youtube about fishing the hawkesbury Good luck
jewgaffer Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 (edited) Hi ryan987 The Hawkesbury is a rather big river and unless you are familiar with it, think of it as just another river, and in saying that treat it as being a narrow river and fish the narrower sections as a starting point.... The narrows in a river are the areas where fish travel thru and occupy more frequently during their stay............ Rather than looking at the Hawkesbury as a whole and trying to take it all in at once, it would be a good idea first off to get hold of a map to scale which highlights the depths and, having done that for area selection and keeping the mid system narrow sections in mind, you will gradually get to know the countours from your depth sounder screen..... Seeing you haven't fished the Hawkesbury before, in order to get results progressively, the best idea would be to start off at the bottom and work your way up......... You can start off from places like Apple Tree Bay, Berowra and up river from Mooney Mooney...... For example if you launch at Mooney Mooney you could spend the whole session fishing in the mid river sections, the narrows thru the passage to the mouth of Berowra and the shallows around Milson Island for instance, where you could fish in various depths in accordance with tides, rather than fishing the more open waters in areas near the mouth or around Burrenjoey and Lion Island looking for blue horizons and big water areas for example..... Mouth areas are places where you would not really be fishing a river for the catch that a river's mid to lower sections can yield........ I hope this helps Cheers jewgaffer Edited March 4, 2009 by jewgaffer
