ftssjk Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 so i'm buying a boat off a guy who's going overseas soon. the boat is registered as is the trailer. so what i will do tomorrow is check the registration papers with the HIN, get a receipt, and registration papers and go into maritime? is the follow details suffice?: date seller signature seller full name seller address 'paid in full' boat buyer address buyer full name. what is the 'notice of disposal'? i've looked it up on maritime NSW but can't find any forms. http://www.maritime.nsw.gov.au/sbh/rego.html#transfer the only form i did find requires a Justice of the peace as that is the form to take if i don't have 'proof of purchase', which i do.
pelican Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Notice of disposal is in relation to the trailer as it is with the RTA. Used to be on the back of rego papers or you just fill out a card at the RTA / mail it in( sellers job I believe ) . It notifies the RTA from the seller that he has sold the trailer and is no longer responsible for the trailer and any fines it gets as of date of sale.. It also asks for the value of the trailer transaction so they can tell if your lying about how much you paid as you have to write that on the rego paper when you transfer so they can calculate that thieving tax called stamp duty. They cross check the notice of disposal card if they receive it for trailer value . I think you have it all for the waterways but just call them so you don't have to go back. Check engine number on boat as well and chassis number on trailer. Check the hull is boatcoded and the numbers are the same and I always get details diectly off drivers lic. Get full service record and all owners documents he has and if headed OS he many have no use for spares, props or other spare stuff that he will want to get rid of. Worth asking. Sort out your insurance as accidents do happen and make sure it is full replacemen of trailer , hull and motor.. Ensure there is no finance on any part of the rig and if there is make sure it is paid out and clear title done by you directly to release title. Finance companies are not messing around in the last 6 months especially as lots of non payment and repossession is going on. Check out REVS equivalent for boat and trailer as well. Don't want to be devils sdvocate on this but the going OS is a typical high pressure sales tatctic and may or may not be true. Make sure the identity of the seller is correct and their drivers lic , boat rego and trailer rego are at the address you are collecting and have viewed the boat at and have a close look at the boatcode plates as there are rebirthed boats out there Hope you hae had the motor checked out as it is a significant part of the value of any boat you are buying I know there was another thread on this in the last 6 months or so which might come up in a search as it had other things worth checking
