Josh88 Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Hi guys, Next January we are looking at booking a trip to NZ for some fishing and a nice holiday, right now we are looking at the bay of islands as while we are after some big kings we would like a bit of variety as well. So anyone that has had past experiences there or other parts of NZ with good fishing i'd like to hear from you. Any recommendations on gear to take would be good and if you know some good charter companies over there if you could PM me their details it would be much appreciated. Cheers Josh

slinkymalinky Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 G'day Josh, The good charters will have gear for you but most of the fishing is livebaiting and bottom fishing... not that that's any hardship I'd only bother taking a bit of extra sport fishing gear... a heavy plastics outfit with 7" Gulp Jerk Shads or 145/190mm Flick Baits or similar and 1/6 - 3/4oz jig heads. Lots of snapper, kings, biiiiiig John Dory for this outfit. Also either a light spin outfit with smaller plastics or a fly rod in the 7-9wt range for the salmon and trevally. Just make sure you have some really small plastics or flys with you in case you have a heap of them around the boat feeding on 'eyes'. Mate... it's an awesome place with awesome fishing and awesome scenery.... take a camera Cheers, Slinky
