g.t. Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Hi guys and gals, Hoping someone can give me some advice and point me in the right direction. I've recently purchased an Eagle FishElite 642c iGPS, combo sounder and gps unit. I haven't installed it yet so I haven't seen the detail of the background map that is built in, but I believe the detail is very basic. As much as I'd love one, I'm really hoping to avoid having to spend $300-400 on a Navionics gold or equivalent. Are there any good (preferably cheap!) alternatives? Or can you buy smaller sections of maps? I mainly fish in Sydney Harbour so a map covering that would be a good start. Thanks in advance!
michaelrdoyle@gmail.com Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Unfortunately - there's no easy way around it. If you want a map of the bottom - you need to pay the big bucks. If it helps - I'm told that most of the money goes straight to the Australian Navy who mapped the bottom for us. Of course - that could be just what the sales person said to make me feel better. According to a catalouge I just receved, you can get the whole Australia Navionics map for $385, or Crowdy Heads to Sydney, or Sydney to Lakes Entrence for $285 each. If I were you - I'd go the $385 and all of Oz. good luck. Mike

My last couple I bought for my bass boats were $395 for Cape York to Gippsland in the south. At least you don't have to run 2 cards like I had to. One for the front unit and one for the console unit..... Greg

I'm not sure I'm allowed to mention the store publicly - so if you want the store, PM me. I'm spewing to - when I bought mine it was $395 for just the east coast. Mike
