fRuItCaKe Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 I've got a 60Hp E-tec (purchased from Huey) and it *may* have an issue so I thought I'd see if anyone may know. Looked near the skeg today and there was a pool of "oil". Kind of clear looking. Never seen it before, very little smell almost clear, not the blue of the XD100. Any clues?? Some of the oil sitting on the lower motor leg too. I'm off upto Newcastle on Sat so if it may be an issue I have the opportunity to drop past Huey and leave the boat. Still under warranty. Thanks Chriso
johnno Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 you may have a leak from a hose or something Have a look at the oil and see if you can trace the leak. mate probably give it back to huey and get it sorted under warranty then you will be all good to go again.
Wantingaboat Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 I would just give Huey a call. I dont think there are many on this site that know more than he does. He has always offered great advice. Mike.
IWANNABROCK Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 Being clear oil,I would have a guess and say it is hydraulic oil from the tilt and trim, maybe loose hose or fitting.
Sammy0884 Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 Hi Mate, XD100 is a very dark bronze colour, XD50 is Blue, XD30 is red. I had a very small issue with an oil leak coming from the gearbox, a tiny drip of light greeny blue oil that came out of the water intake mesh and ran down the skeg on hot days out of the water. It was traced down to a faulty gearbox O-ring that was replaced promptly under warranty by Huey, i suggest it could be a similar thing as it would be very hard to distinguish the gear oil against the blue motor paint. Talk to huey and he will have it sorted. Cheers Sammy

When you run a few tanks of oil thru her, which does take a few years, the oil will go a lighter colour. We have had a couple of oil tanks with a small leak around the base of the tank where the two halves are joined and runs down the mid-section and onto the AV plate. If not confident of removing the lower cowls yourself and inspecting the bottom of the tank contact us and book it in and we can check and if under warranty the tank will be replaced if found faulty. Cheers, Huey.

Cheers, Huey. Huey, As discussed on the phone, I'll drop the beast in sat week (or thereabouts). I'm good with electrics but shit with mechanicals I'll also get you to install a between hulls bilge pump (wiring already done), plus some other bits and pieces. Thanks Chris
suttonscurse Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Hi Chris . I have an E-Tec 90 hp which I have had since Jan 2005. One of the only issues i have had is in overfilling the oil tank so that when the motor is on full tilt (or when towing with the motor tilted up on the bracket) that it was seeping oil from around the plug that has the oil lines coming out of the tank. The local Evinrude agent fixed this quickly and advised me not to fill the oil tank to the to the brim and I have not had a problem since.Hope this helps regards Bill
