Hi raiders,

I fished at wisemans ferry last night with my mate joe and managed a pretty good feed.

first fish of the night was a nice 55cm jew, it was caught on a double hook rig with a full squid and the top hook was in its mouth and the second hook in its side

It took some getting in and I thought it was a touch larger as it was coming in sideways. I steadily caught fish all night while joe for a change sat there watching me and catching zilch!!( Payback is a bitch!).

we left at around midnight and the final tally was 3jew, 2 flathead and a bream to me, 2 flathead to joe.

Joe did manage a flattie around 60cm so he was happy!

The jew werent huge but it should only get better between now and the end of may. All up we probably threw back about a dozen undersized fish.

Pete.

Nice session mate!

Ya gotta be happy with that.

Were you guys landbased or in a boat? Looks like a fish was laid out on a wharf?

Was it right on High tide when you were catching the jews?

Nice feed there, enjoy :biggrin2:

we fish from a boat the timber you can see is plywood floor. we arrived right on high and fished the run out.

We have caught them at all stages of the tide at this particular spot so no particular time is better than the other. Night seems to fish better than day however last season my 3 biggest were caught in broad daylight - go figure????

Hi roberta,

I was only saying to Joe last night that in years gone by before we started fishing our spot at wisemans, we would have been over the moon to catch 3 nice jew that size - these days we sort of take it for granted at this time of year. Just need a couple of bigger ones now - I think I am getting spoiled!

Well said Grant and good work Pete.

Here's some more good news this time it's good nerws for the Georges river fishermen. :yahoo:

I'm just about to post a quick report on the Georges school size jew situation confirmed in a report following on behalf of my friend George/ Cungee George who sent me a pic this morning of another genuine school size jew at just over 8 kilos which he caught around Lugarno last night and others around that size were caught by one of our members jewfish king at Como on two simliar nights but were said to be caught during the early run out tide....George said his jewfish was another top of the tide fish coming in over Botany obviously with others and it's interesting that the ones George caught and showing in my report for his session on the Sunday week were typical of early incoming tide upriver fish and he caught the school size 85cm jew among the 60cm size upriver fish also during the run in tide. George only caught the fish in the photo last night on live yekkowtail and nothing on any of his dead baits

Whilst not getting much back from the Hawkesbury or under selling the Hacking it looks as though the Georges is fairing better for breeding size fish than the other rivers at the moment

Cheers

Hi grant,

there were soooo many in the river around october november that were just a smidge under size, I am hoping that the same jew will have grown and we will get a big run of 50 - 70 cm jew now. If last night was anything to go by, this could be the begining. I just hope there are a few bigguns in amongst them too.

hi mate, there are a lot of good rocks to fish from all along the river. Many years ago I caught a heap of soapies from the public wharf right in wisemans just before the ferry, so that could be worth a go. you may even get small tailor hanging around the light and a fresh fillet will nail a jew if they are around. good luck.
