j williams
Hi fellow raiders, I was hoping someone may be able to assist me with a bit of advice. I was given a Garmin 120 GPS unit. It is without an antenna, mounting bracket or cables. My father inlaw found it when he was moving house but he no longer has the other parts. I have done a search on the net and discovered that the Garmin 120 GPS is no longer made and has been discontinued. I don't know how good the Garmin 120 is but I am hoping to get it working to see what its like rather than just throwing it out. So the question is, can I use another model of Garmin GPS antenna and cables and will they work on this model? I do not need a bracket as I should be able to make one myself.......hopefully. Another question. I am planning on building a livebait tank for my boat. (a aluminium 4.95m centre console Savage osprey @ late 1980's model) I was thinking about just a round drum in the rear corner (like the white one in one of the other threads) and running the power to a small secondary battery. I was also thinking about running the GPS and sounder from the smaller battery as well and keeping the main battery just for the motor. Does this sound OK or would the main battery be enough to run everything? I hope that I have not confused anyone......lol Thanks for any help. Jason. pappy
jason i am not shore about the gps but with the live bait tank the drum would be ok but i would be fitting it in the center of the boat against the transom and i would fit a duel battery setup you than can still have one as a start battery and the Arther as a house battery that way you can use ether one to start the motor if one should pack it in .if fishing offshore duel battery are a must in my book .hop i have been of help. pappy Edited March 26, 2009 by pappy1
j williams
Thanks for the advice Pappy, I can only put the live tank on the right side due to the set up of my bait board in the middle and the steering controls on the other side. I am going to add the second battery and hopfully balance the back of the boat out by putting my esky in the other corner which should fit under the steering controls. . In relation to the GPS, I have finally received a return email from Garmin who indicated to me that I should just buy a new one as all the assessories for the GPS 120 are discontinued and the next antenna up being the GA29 is not compatiable. Thanks . Jason.
