5ky
I notice that alot of people when they catch the fish, they kill it straight away and leave it in the bucket to keep it fresh? What do normally people do? I usually just leave it in the bucket in water and it just dies by the time i get it home. BUt the fish becomes so stiff. Whats the best way to cut it or to keep it fresh? sorry for the noob question, as I just started getting into fishing, and its great fun
Josh88
Treating your catch properly will improve its eating qualities, IMO you should kill the fish immediately either by hitting it on the head with a mallet or something or using a brain spike, depending on the fish it should be immediately bled, i do it with most fish, following that it needs to go onto ice whether it be just a straight up bag of ice in an esky or ice slurry in a kill tank, this will keep it fresh and prevent any flesh detiorioration. The fish is always going to go stiff but makes it easy to fillet unless its curled up when being frozen. Cheers Josh

Cheers Josh i normally put them in a bucket full of ice.. they don't die straight away. before i go home, take them out and gut them, wash them snap freeze. doing this always makes them the best tasting.
