Gday All

I was hoping anyone could help me, I am looking a buying a new fishing boat, but completely stuck.

the real use os for fishing, thus the reason why I was looking at a side console Ally craft/quinnie/polycraft.

My only concern is the protection from the weather (rain etc) with ther install of a bimini, it may help a little but not sure.

If anyone has a similar sort of boat (with pics), could you share your thoughts, on how you find it etc.

Shane

man i got a 435 hornet trophy side console great all weather boat just keep your rain coat in one ot the hatchs :1prop: if you end up with something like that i wouldnt put a bimni on it especially if you intend on flicking lures all day long they just get in the way

I agree with breamhunter. My mate has a 435 hornet trophey side console and its a sweet boat. Two live wells, heaps of storage, rides pretty well and add an electric and your pretty set for anything inside of the heads. I suppose you can take it outside on a good day but we never did. Dont know much about the other boats but i agree again with BH that i wouldnt add a bimini. Would just get in the way unless you plan on doing a lot of anchored fishing in the sun or rain and if you are, a hornet isnt the right boat for you anyway. Just my opinion. Good luck with the search.

Shane,

I currently have a Trailcraft 540 Profish and being a lergish side consol hardly get wet while under way -except while trolling offshore with a strong wind and chop comming directly from the port or starboard. But I can adjust that by altering course slightly.

I have a heavy duty bimni installed from new and after having the boat a month I too wanted extra shelter so I got a set of custom clears made up with zippers attached to the bimni and studs on the gunnels to close off most of the boat (can drive with them on at 30knts too)

However I have only used them once as they were a PITA to put on and store (not much storage space) so have been in the garage ever since.

Even when I go outside I remove the bimni as it detracts from the boats original appeal (having full access) and the supports just get in the way.

My solution is simple- I have a great set of wet weather gear that I use when I know it going to be showering.

I'll take some photos tomorrow of the bimni up for you but the clears are stored elsewhere and cant give you a pic of them up.

Guess what Im trying to say is that if you are undecided now I think you will regret the open boat purchace quickly just as I did to some extent as the constant beating of the elements does quickly become tireing

Regards,

Ben

i'v got a 5meter savage scorpion with bimini and full clears but originly wanted a center console

as said above if your flicking plastics the bimini gets in the way but on the uther hand with the bimini and clears rainy days and windy days ar'nt even a consideration when plaining a fishing trip

i always put the clears on even in the harbour and have had quite a few waves from big boats hit the clears while i'm under way

and i realy apreciate them when it does start to raining if i was to buy a new boat again it would have a bimini and clears
