SNAPPER ON PLASTICS

Q 1 I seem to hook most fish in the top third of the water even in 20mts of water and usually on the 1st drop to the bottom. Do most of you,s find this the norm aswell.

Q 2 If bringing the plastic back in mid water what do you,s think is the best retieve style to get more bites.

I hardly get any hits on the retrieve back to the boat. Thanks.

G'day Greg,

I haven't done a lot of snapper on plastics fishing but they certainly seem to nearly always hit the lure on the drop. Sometimes high in the water, sometimes deeper. Seems to be a day by day thing.

I've never had much luck either on the retrieve back to the boat. I'll hop and sometimes burn the plastic up off the bottom a few meters then let it settle again (often when more hits come), then when it's time to retrieve it, I'll usually do a flat out retrieve in the hope of getting a pelagic. Commonly get tailor, little tuna, bonito that way (not to mention shortened tails from mackerel from time to time... LOL)

GregL has been doing heaps of Snapper on plastic fishing so do a search on his posts over the last 6 months or so and you might pick up a few gems.

Cheers, Slinky

Just a quick question what size jig heads and hook do you use when you are using both 5" and 7" plastics?

About 3/0 or 5/0 in the 7" plastics and 1/0 or 2/0 in the 5" plastics usually. Weight to suit depth, current and drift speed but in 15-20m of water most commonly 1/4 or 3/8oz

TTs 1/2 oz usually & 3/4 for 7'' in water over 20mts but still experimenting with bigger heads. Were wondering if the splash of the bigger heads are attracting more fish. there is so much to learn & not enough time on the water.
