robthefisherman
Hi Guys Just wondeing if anyone had fished the Nepean near Camden and with what results. It's onlt 5 minutes from my place and I was thinking abouit heading down and haveing a try. Seeing that I know jack about freshwater fishing (which is just a little less than I know about saltwater fishing ) should I be using lures and if so what are the best for this kind of fishing. I've got quite a few sp's grubs, minnows, nippers and also got some small metal spinners.or should I just dig up some earthworms and hang em off a hook? Guest Jocool
I stopped once at a little park on the corner of Cobbity and Werombi Rds. at Brownlow Hill. I'm sure your Areas would be similar. Down at the water, was a few awesome looking snags. If you had the time to prospect there a bit I would hazzard a guess and say you should be able to pull a Bass out of there. At the very least you could try for carp. I would be using lures as it makes you more mobile!
the_lure
Rob will you be landbased? if in canoe, no worries go for it, landbased is harder, but try behind the airport near the road bridge at dusk or dawn, i used to get a few nice fish there on surface lures. theres also mullet, dont laugh they are big and a lot of fun, small hook, bread for bait and burley. for carp use canned corn kernels for bait (2 on a small hook) and burley fish nice and light, about 2kg is good and sporting cheers Chris PS also in Camden itself theres a park with a small footbridge, some bass in there and monster carp. Ozy
How ya going Rob, Next time you hear cicadas in the trees get down there with a surface lure but you may have left it a little late for the Bass. As mentioned there are some big Carp in there, I've been down there on my surf ski and Carp have swum underneath me scaring the sh*t out of me . Captain Pugwash
Rob, I spent my entire life fishing the Nepean, born and bred in camden. I haven't fished it for years since I moved away but used to catch some great Perch, Bass, catfish, eels, mullet in the nepean and even trout ( yes trout! ) in the overflow from warragamba dam where it meets the Nepean at Wallacia. Agree with earlier post that a canoe would be heaps better than land based. We were locals 30 years ago and had almost total access to people's properties. That wouldn't happen now. The junction of Cobbity and Werombi rds was a good spot. Look for back eddy's caused by fallen timbers in the river. The junction of Warragamba and Nepean river at Wallacia was a particular favourite, scored some terrific bass, mullet and trout there and was accessible by 4WD to quite close to the river. Happy to discuss old war stories and maybe tips if you want. Cheers Peter
robthefisherman
Well went down and had a flick tonight all I managed to catch was on overhanging branch of a casurina tree, started getting dark and quite a few cars started arriving and an increasing number of gentlemen were wandering around the place and they didn't have fishing rods, thought I'd leave before more than a fish grabbed me on the tackle

The Iceman
Wallacia is pretty good it doesnt see the amount of pressure that Cobbity Camden and Menangle get You do need a canoe though for access
Brendan26391763892&5
Down at the weir in Camden there are some monsters carp and catfish I had my line broken a few time by the monster fish you can spear the fish when the waters visibility is better as close to the weir the water is not very deep
