What To Do When You Can't Fish?

Like a lot of fishos I seem to find some very strange fishing related things to do when I can't get out fishing. The weather up here has been hopeless and combined with work, I've been kept from the water for 3 or 4 weeks. It's driving me nuts as my :wife: can tell from the following...

- of course I've re-sorted my tackle a couple of times

- I've tried out about 30 different lures and soft plastics in the pool 'to see how they swim'

- I was caught by a neighbor casting at rocks and sticks in the front yard with a baitcaster outfit ('Catching many'?..... how humiliating)

- I've travelled to Sydney to go to a fishing seminar at Go Fish (I was there for work.... really!)

- I've spent hours programming new marks into my sounder that I've been digging up from all sorts of sources

- I've re-read The Old Man & The Sea for about the 20th time along with just about every fishing mag and book I own

- I've been watching my fishing DVD collection until I can recite the dialogue from memory.

Mate I can hear your frustration when we chat on the phone.

Knowing big reds, huge mackeral & wahoo are waiting for us to have a crack at them drives me around the twist as well.

I won't mention the big jew hanging around the seaway atm either!! :1wallbash:

We'll make up for it soon mate. :biggrin2:

Cheers,

Grant.

One of our old fishing time passers is watch one of the old free "fishing DVD's" with Mark Berg and count how many times he mentions "Ultra Bite" threw out the DVD. We got to like 147 time on one of the volumes!

spend more money on fishing gear!!

yep. all of the above for me, also taking the latest copy of fishing world for lengthy bathroom breaks..

tying knots in stuff and then testing them to the limit. i tied some 20 lb braid to a swivel and to another swivel and i am going to see how much i can attach to it before it breaks..how many brake discs can 20lb braid support? important stuff i know!

tie thousands of knots and get the so you can tie them all with your eyes closed with cold frozen fingers..

Apparently Greg, he has also:

Been on 11 'the best trip of a lifetime'

Caught 68 'fish of a lifetime'

Applied the term 'gun fisho' to every guest he has had on the show

I replace trebles on lures, use model paint to 'customise' blades and hardbodies, sharpen jig heads, play 'fetch' with my young bloke and a casting plug on the baitcaster in the back yard, and cruise garage sales for fishing 'bargains'

Cheers

Wow .. the similarities ...

- of course I've re-sorted my tackle a couple of times

I have started, but instead have just made a mess in the garage

- I've tried out about 30 different lures and soft plastics in the pool 'to see how they swim'

no pool, did this in the backyard, in the rain

- I was caught by a neighbor casting at rocks and sticks in the front yard with a baitcaster outfit ('Catching many'?..... how humiliating)

got lure stuck on Christmas tree at front of house. Left it tangling until rain stopped to retrieve

- I've travelled to Sydney to go to a fishing seminar at Go Fish (I was there for work.... really!)

I was there too .. but I do live in the area

- I've spent hours programming new marks into my sounder that I've been digging up from all sorts of sources

no sounder, instead on google earth plotting potential spot X's

- I've re-read The Old Man & The Sea for about the 20th time along with just about every fishing mag and book I own

bought fishing mags for the first time in 2 years .. 4 for the price of 1 .. bargain !

- I've been watching my fishing DVD collection until I can recite the dialogue from memory.

I'm always thinking about the next fishing trip...

- Google map possible fishing spots

- On the fishraider forums

- Looking thru my tying fishing knots book, and making fishing rigs

- Watch fishing DVDs and Youtube.

- Rod and reel maintenance

- Thinking of new ways to fish with different rigs, bait setup.

Fun....
