rovering77
Hey Guys, A few friends and I are new to fishing, we have bought the gear and got the bug. I just wanted to get some tips on where the best places to fish are around the Eastern Suberbs and Harbour. Unfortunately we don't have a boat. Also any tips on the best bait would be much appreciated, we have been having some success with prawns but mostly only catching Juvenile Snapper. Cheers, Nige

slinkymalinky
Nige, Hope we get to see some of the fish you catch in some posts soon. There's so many options for locations it's hard to know where to start. The best bit of advice I can give is to try focussing on chasing one particular species at a time... don't just go out hoping to catch whatever comes along. This way you'll learn the techniques and locations needed to get good results on that species and then you can move on to the next one. You'll still get plenty of 'by-catch'. Starting with flathead or bream is a good option. They're plentiful and widespread. Also have a look at the great reply post in this topic from GregL. It's a brilliant simple guide for basics that will catch you a lot more fish. http://fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=41090 Finally on locations, get hold of one of the many map books available (give Pete a call at Go Fish who are one of our sponsors... they've got a good range). These books will give you heaps of places to try for starters. Cheers, Slinky
