A good thing about Fishraiders, is there is always someone who is telling a story about a lucky escape, usually because of dumb luck or knuckle headed action, like the current thread about boat ramp horror stories.

Its really good for a chuckle as well as being a reminder that no matter how experienced you are, or not, things go wrong.

Like today. Took wife.gif and my two 1prop.gif kids plus a kids mate 1prop.gif out from Appletree Bay. As I was hooking the trailer up the kids were renacting Custer's Last Stand. mad3.gif Anyway, no problem away we went.

Great day out. I caught my first jew fish, everyone caught fish, boat was great. thumbup.gif

On the way back, the ramp queue was like a supermarket on Saturday morning, so things were a bit rushed. Anway all's cool, heard a bit of bang went existing with boat on. No problem, she'll be sweet.

Driving back on the bendy road towards Bobbin Head, and the Damn Trailer pops off the tow ball. 05.gif Rear ends (slightly) the back of the car, autographs the silly wheel cover, and there i am stuck.

Could have been much worse I know.

Then a fantastic land based fisher, jumps in his car with wife.gif and kids, drives up, just because he heard the noise, helps get the boat back on and escorts home because the trailer electrics were screwed.

So if anyone can recommend a mobile sparky for trailer that would be great

The moral of the story - check, recheck, triple check... yeah, yeah, yeah.

By the way can anyone id this fish...

u sure someone didnt disconnect your trailer from the towball being smart asses? as it would have come off when u left your drive way

You are too right about being lucky.. esp with the family in the car. As Gazza said, it's strange nothing happened on the way down to the ramp, glad to hear everything ended up ok.

Everything on my trailer that can be padlocked is (don't know in this case, but theres always a chance little !@#'s are around). Knowing my luck though I will come back to the ramp oneday and the car will be missing with the towbar unbolted and sitting on the ground with the trailer still attached.

all i know is that the fish is a Wrasse, dont know what species of Wrasse it is though.

Hey guys you might be right about smart asses - because my drive has a signfiicant dip. If it wasn't t hitched properly, I would be surpised if it didn't pop off then.

G'day Dhutchy, great read mate and good to hear all catching some fish, Hutcho and I had the same experience once coming home from the Pretty Beach boat ramp, only got one K or so , hit a bump and the trailer popped of and wedged under the bumper, the saftey chain stopped it from doing any real damage and the lights plug was out as well, we travel about 18 k's the the ramp from Copa and it was definately was all secure as it would have popped of at the driveway.

We padlock and double check now before leaving the ramp in case someone has been tampering.

Chopper 75 started a topic in the boating section a short time back and I added this post:-

"Not quite a boat ramp one, but anyway.

20 years ago we used to go down to Pretty Beach and fish and dive out of Bawley Point in a 14 foot quinnie.

Any one who knows the area will know there are stacks of roo,s around. Anyway Just retireved the boat, jumped in the car and took off down the road. Roo appears, andrew brakes misses roo.

Next thing the right hand trailer wheel passes us still doing the original 60klms and continued down the road.

Absolutely cacked ouselves laughing, one of those things that "you had to be there to be funny" thing."

We didn't even think about sabotage then or since but now you have said what you said, I'll be buggered.

Was your incident around the same time, because the more I think of it, a wheel just does not fall off on its own.

Im a little older now and every time before going out and after retriving do the simply little 30 sec safety check thing as a habit now.

Just walk around the boat and trailer before you take off and look, poke, ,prod, pull and kick all necessary bits. Once this becomes a habit you will really quickly pick up anything you have forgotten to do and or if someone has god forbid it tampered with your rig.

PS Ray also Glad you got into the Reddies this weekend. Had a Reddy session planned with my mate because we new they,d be on this weekend but he got "Wifedyd" at the last minute. Bugger on that but thats fishin.

Is the trailer electric braked or is it just basic lights and blinkers.and what area r you in .They are very easy to fix if they are basic lights. Let me no if u need help

all u need is a 12volt tester pen and a new plug when u buy the new plug it has simple colour coded wiring directions there very simple
