nemu Posted June 11, 2009 Share Posted June 11, 2009 it's the same every year and i have done a few posts warning everyone so what's the solution bag out every time you go out 20 per person and no size limit there good to eat or you can give them to someone at the ramp it's a bit like rabits your will never get rid off them totaly but you can do your bit to thin the numbers go forth raiders and bag out it only takes 45 mins and a bit off burly cherrs a true jacket hater gary The solution? bag out by all means please don't hesitate but the problem we have here is for any one that may spend time on the water and has witnessed a frenzy feeding on hatch is I think there aren't adequate pelagics to eat the little buggers when they hatch thats why we have the sharks eating the bait so close inshore now cause there is just lots of it (bait)let the pelagics get up to school size where they was 25-30year ago we can again catch 200lb tuna at the peak again 80lb kingy's in the harbour oncemore the leather jacket hatch would be bought in line and we could live hapilly ever after.But thats just what I think maybe just maybe it could be another reason.. Although i have seen a few closer to the surface at places like Clifton Gardens. if they are there theyll take your bait within seconds and its difficult to feel the bites. use small hooks and small prawn baits. most wharfs with deep water will hold jackets at one time or another Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

We used servo squid as its harder for the sods to strip the bait. Still yet to work out how to efficiently skin and fillet them ... but he was happy to have a few "fish cocktails (BBQ qith squeeze of lemon) on his dinner plate.
