Bolts
Looking at purchasing a spinning reel to use on a 10-12 foot beach/rock rod chasing salmon/kingies/bonnies and snapper but also double up as a reel to use on boats chasing Jews/Kings. I like the looks of either of these 2 reels but haven't had any experience using them. Does anyone have an opinion on which reel outperforms and why? And what size should I be looking at getting? Thanks in advance.

olitay
Hey there, i have a few Stradics. I have a 1000, 4000 and 8000 top reels! The 4000 is a smooth performer and caters for a wide range of applications. Edited June 13, 2009 by BillyD

Bolts
Yeah, I'd love to get a Stella but unfortunately the budget doesn't stretch that far. Sounds like the Spheros is a better reel than the Stradic though. However I think the Stradic does offer a spare spool for another size line which would be handy, I think the Spheros doesn't. Anyone else have an opinion? Would the 8000 size be overkill for rockfishing? Cheers
thomo
8000 is not an overkill but does depend on your rod...i use a 14000 for my rock/beach work =) cheers thomo
grumpy stu
I wouldnt bother going for a 6000 over an 8000, as its just the spool thats different between. May as well hold more line. The stradic is more of a nice reel than the spheros, but the spheros is pretty tough. Plenty get used for jigging without dramas, seems they punch a bit above their weight. If you wanted spheros tough but maybe a bit nicer you could look at a saragosa, wouldnt be much more $$ than a stradic.
