Small Jew In The Hacking V2

Went out last night with my brother in law to show him how to catch a Jew. The fish showed up at Spot X within 15 minutes of the predicted time. Caught these 2 little soapies 10 minutes apart. Couldn't let him get one without a catch and release of my own.

Fresh squid strips although seemed to get some hits on salted bonito fillet. I've dropped down to 2/0 cutting point hooks to see if I can increase the strike rate. Jury still out on Octopus circle 4/0 vs Cutting Point 2/0. I'll keep you posted.

That's it for another month. Probably won't target Jews again until new moon comes back in 4 weeks ;(

Good effort always a good thing to spread thew joy of these great little fish...i got silver secrets and jewfish secrets in the mail today and so far jewfish secrets looks not to bad havent seen secret silver disc 2 yet....have there been any bigger fish in the hacking atm heard of heaps of soapies being caught atm which is good for the future but not to many solid 15kg plus fish anywhere...

Hi Mrwolf It's unusal for you to give up now after you and your friend still managed to get onto a couple of soapies as recently as last night, I'm guessing off Wally's wharf or similiar ...... grab a lantern and work up towards the point of the rocks on the right and fish till daybreak if you can. The main channel into Dolan's winds well away to the right and drops into over forty foot just inside those rocks and it seems not many make the effort to fish down there... I'd use strong 7/0 wide gapes and fish the 40' hole as well and don't worry about the moons or the tides for the hole should be loaded with bi catch and snapper too I'd say, and there would also be a lot of bait fish there too at some time or other... During any part of the run in tide I'd cast for jew round towards the right corner of the point and run out tide back directly behind the hole with a long cast..

Mate, have you tried Mustad Penetrators? They are a fine guage hook and have significantly improved our hook-up rate on schoolies...

Another method that may help is a fine guage owner treble as a stinger.

Of course, the hook size depends on the size of the bait you are using...
