Hi Raiders, gonna try some occy tenticle for snapper bait as I've heard they go loopy over it,

well what I need to know is some ways of hooking it up, do you peel off all the skin and suckers,

just a bit of general info from any Raiders that have used occy tenticle before.

Cheers...

hey ray i think the only advantage with occy is it's tuff and the pickers do'nt seem to be able to chew it off the hook

give the tenticals a good going over with a meat hammer leave the skin and suckers on and place on the hook the same as an sp on a paternoster rig so it moves around and looks alive

i would think fresh squid would out fish occy but the pickers will have a feild day on the squid

good luck ray hope to see a new pm snapper in your next post

Hey Ray,

I've only used it a few times when one came up on a bottom bait, so we used it.

The suckers on a fresh one are very sticky and hard, so I just run the knife along and remove them, cut off the leg high up and peel the rest of the skin off to leave a very seductive looking bait indeed.

We've had a king take one once, but that was it. I bet if I gave it a good go they'd work quite well though.

Never tried snapper, but I'd guess it'd be great, maybe with two hooks?

I'd be interested to hear repots of shop bought occy as bait and it's effctiveness, since catching them is not really reliable.

Good luck mate.

Dave

Back in the 80s, caught a reasonable sized occy in Lurline bay - night fishing.

Put a tentacle out running paternoster hoping for a red, but got dissapointed.

Consolation prize was a big girl bream who went 2.25Kg cleanded and scaled!

She went like a train!

Sorry no pics but when it was head down in a 20L white pastry bucket, theere was a wide handspan of caudal penuncal and tail out over the edge of the bucket! :biggrin2:

:biggrin2: hi ray

rub the legs on a rock so it shows a bit of white flesh here and there and put the thicker part up the shank over the eye then a half hitch around the leg and let the narrow part hang an inch below the hook

best bait for reds and bream also jew and more jew

the reds will love it where you fish at avoca

peter :1fishing1:

watch out when winding in fast because kingfish cant resist it
