zephi Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 (edited) Caught my first Kingy at Port Hacking today! 70cm, 3kg. Catching a lot of livebaits as soon as we arrived, caught a lot of pilchards , yakkas and gars. Had livies out as soon as we arrived. After about 3 hours, finally my first run ever! Slow but steady take, and I quickly picked up the rod to strike, tightened the drag and I was on! I took my time with this fish, and pumped retrieved every time it paused. After about 5 minutes, the fish was finally in sight... thought it looked like a big trevally as it was already on it's side, then saw the yellow tail! and knew it was a kingy. It swam around under my feet for about 5 minutes before it swam into the net... it still had a lot of go left in him. Had 20lb fireline with a 50lb mono trace, weightless with a single 4/0 hook. Caught it 1 hour after high tide, using livebait pilchard. Finally! patience and determination has paid off. After about 20 minutes, my uncle rod has a huge run! Seemed much bigger than my fish, it just pulled on forever, it did not stop once at all. With probably around 20 metres of line left in the spool, he tightens fully and it was still peeling line out, until he finally put some pressure on the reel and the line snaps! That's too bad.... But I'm so stoked about my first kingy! My biggest fish I've ever caught Edited June 29, 2009 by zephi
