Mercer007
Raiders, Headed to Avoca again with Ray R to see if we could get on to some more Salmon. Ray arrived before me and had allready caught a little flounder. (Sorry no pic) We were throwin pillies round for an hour or so with only a few nibbles and then Rays rod goes off bout a half hour before dark. Short battle lands Ray a nice little Tailor. Shortly after Ray's on again, another tailor landed for the big fella. I hooked up and dropped a couple then Ray's on yet again. 3/0 advantage Ray. Right on dark I manage my first of the day, short fight, small tailor round 40cm. For the next half hour or so we landed another 6 between us dropping just as many as we caught. The Tailor stopped biting so I rigged up a fresh Tailor fillet on a 5/0 to see if there was anything out there. (Actually hopeing for a Jewie) SAAD's post has made me keen as ever to get 1 off the Beach at my local. Just a few nibbles, and a small run, but nothing landed. All in all, had an absolute ball with Ray down the beach. It's been a good week. A few fillets to salt up for bait...... Cheers Peter

roosterman
sounds like it was an action packed session peter, well done i half agree with others.. i say half in smoker for a feed and others for jew bait... sending a slab or butterflied one is always a good idea when they are feeding like that as predators like jew will be either chasing them also or feeding on the scraps they leave like a burly trail imho.... unlucky not to get a good run but always worth a shot... cheers...steve.... That's a good idea Saad, when you finish work in your chemist shop one night and there's a high around 10pm why don't you arrange to run live tailor or large strip baits and long streamlined salmon fillet cuts down there on say 40lb mono and a stretchy mid line leader with Ray, Hutcho and Pete/mercer.... It's got me beat why there are not more raiders down there at South Avoca at the moment fishing salmon and tailor at night for jew and whatever comes along in the pecking order rather than overlooking the fish that actually feed on their catch..... Cheers jewgaffer Jewgaffer, .........What type of rig and hook size should work best for a beach type rig, considering that I'm going to use salted Tailor and Salmon fillets for bait........ ......Any tips would be greatly apreciated. Kind Regards Peter Hi Mercer007 ....thanks for the pm Peter....Tell Ray to line up a Saturday night for around 3pm start and I might be able come up there myself with Jim my Ballina mate... the more you can get to fish alongside you up there and the more buckets of burley the better, you can never use too much burley on a beach......you need to attract and confine as many fish as you can to the one area....Stay clear of rocks and fish sand in gutter but claim the flow side of the gutter for yourself lol... You'd pick an afternoon to be there for an early or mid run in tide start, so have a lively beach rod with you to get a bait a good way out during run in tide - use fixed claw sinker on bottom of rig - 60lb leader off standout twisted dropper or make up standout wire to cover using big baits..... rig up big streamlined tailor fillet on one side long salmon fillet on the other, skin back to back so as to have both sides of flesh showing on outside.....use two short shank live bait 8/0s ...... You could use running swivel of 120lb strength on top of main swivel to bead instead of dropper and run the big baits to act as a running snapper sinker with claw acting as main sinker to hold on the sand... Hope this helps and covers your questions Cheers jewgaffer Edited July 7, 2009 by jewgaffer
