tan the fisherman
Hi Raiders, Im a Shimano man through and through but today stuck my toe into unknown waters . I picked up a Daiwa Procaster 2000XA - spin reel for $65 down from $155, with spare spool. Its my first venture beyond the Shimano stable and I was very hesitant to buy it. The bloke rated it above the comparable Shimano reels - the Seido... I think For my purpose it will be fine - squidding, bait jigging and small lures. Just wondering if anyone used one before. They look the goods, reviews on the net are good too. Thanks Raiders. Tan Edited July 24, 2009 by tan the fisherman

Bob Fossil
What are you on about mate? Sorry Tan, on re-read I see what you mean. Think of it phonetically. "Shim - Who - mo?". I see where you think I may have been coming from but it certainly wasnt about that. Tight lines, Bob Edited July 24, 2009 by Bob Fossil
Trapper Tom
G'Day Tan Don't quite know about the 2000 range. But be very conforted. My primary weapon is a Daiwa 4000xa with a Okuma precision PXT 702 DSM rod. Mate have caught 1m + kingies with it and got a 1m + barra to within 15 foot of the boat with it. 10 ball bearings, smooth as a babies bum, beautifiul beautiful. Run 30lb braid off it. Above fish were no contest for it, so suggest your 2000 range for $65, absolute bargain and top of the line gear. Go forth young "Tan" and enjoy. Dammit another corney line mate, can't help myself. Cheers Trapper T
arpie
Hi Tan Well done on your purchase - sounds like you got a bargain!! Any more there?? Daiwa have been knocking on Shimano's door for some time & have lots of pros on their books. Often you get similar (if not the same) quality (sometimes better) for a lesser price. I am sure you will be very happy with it! Now, you just have to 'blood it'!! Let us know how you go! Cheerio Roberta

Cheerio Roberta Hi Roberta, Bargain indeed- these guys were selling environets for $20 down from $48 - I help myself. I am very impressed with the reel and my research suggested this reel is a fairly robust unit. Im blooding it tomorrow morning so hopefully will have something to post.... and eat!! Frizzy
Hi Tan I've got one just like it just over a year ago. I have mine spooled with 4lb braid and 6lb mono on the spare spool however I dont think I've ever used the mono spool... Its caught many flathead and a few bream on plastics. Biggest catch on it was a 4kg shovel nose ray.
