archilles2
Hey all, I've now upgraded my shimano 6500b with new washers , and am going to lay 80lb braid on it. To some this might be excessive, however i want to tackle kingies that reach potential hoodlum size. Because i've spent abit already i just want a rod to get me by for the time being - my wonderful friend at my local tackle shop offered me a shimano 8 - 15 kg rod for about $ 70. it's 7ft - would that be good enough gang ? Any help would be greatly appreciated Edited July 27, 2009 by archilles2

Piss'n'Broke
Silstar power crystal tip 10kg. If I were you I would look for rods shorter than 6'6 especially on a boat if your chasing kings. The longer the rod the less leverage you can apply on a fish, and on a fish like a decent kingy you want every advantage you can get or otherwise you will get bricked every time! stinger
i use about 6,6 rods of the boat and they work i recently got a 7ft ugly stik and it doesent give as much leverage as mentioned but is certainly still use able on my bottom bashing outfit i have got a cheap penn mariner rod made to suit a gto reel from a department store about 60bucks with the reel it costs and i have landed a 16kg mullaway on it and a tonn of rays on it and it is ok certainly works aswell and it is 6foot cameron
