Pimp My Reel.

Hey guys,

I have recently bought a boat (i will post about it soon), so i will be doing some downrigging for kings.

Im a full time student so my budget is limited when it comes to tackle..

I own a shimano spheros 6000FA on a 12-20 pound carbon rod, now i know that i will get smoked by the hoodlums but i am hoping i can increase my stopping power with some upgrades to the reel.

I have heard about upgrades such as new handles, carbontex drags and more bearings.

has anybody got any experience in such upgrades, are they going to increase my chances of landing some legal kings?

on the rod i have aprox 300m of 30lb braid, is this sufficient for downrigging around the bay or do i need to upgrade to 50lb?

if anybody knows what size drag washer and where to purchase it it would be greatly appreciated.

hey dave the gear you have is more than capable off landing good kings however if your talking about stopping them dead in there tracks [1meter +] you will proberly need 80lb braid and a good overhead

if you ca'nt stop them with 30 then 50 will proberly not stop them either

i uses 80lb at rg and have never stoped the resident hoddys down there[always get reefed]
