fishon Posted August 15, 2009 Share Posted August 15, 2009 hey wandering if anyone out there has the same motor its a 2004 25hp mercury short shaft electric and pullstart the model number is a 25e heres my question the manual tilt locks in when tilted up as if you were going to tow it but it has no locking device when lowered as if in the water ready to go i havent had it in the water yet ive looked right over it there is nothing broken or anything like that im just a bit concerned whilst in reverse about the motor coming up or something or does the weight of the thing hold it down ive only ever had 6hp and they have a little lock thing and another thing it also has a like a almost a piece of coat hanger but thicker hanging down looks like an original part whats its purpose if anyone has any info at all it would be tremendously appreciated Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Pull the leaver in the lock position and it should lock unless the trim pin is missing. Its the pin that goes in the series of holes along both sides of the transom plate. a boat Posted August 16, 2009 Share Posted August 16, 2009 Hi, your engine has a locking devise when engine is in reverse. That is if everything from orginal is still there and often people when servicing miss the loop for the shift shaft or do not put on the washer that operates the locking devise. Hard to explain and if not locking in reverse plan on using the boat up at the Hawkesbury on day and swing by with it and I can take a quick look. Cheers, Huey.
