mii11x
hi raiders, instead of going to my normal spot last night i opted to go squidding in the hacking. first time squidding so wasnt to sure how to do it properly, i used a slow lift and retrieve. well it worked out well and managed two inkers woohoo any info on how to bleed and get them ready for the plate would be much appreciated cheers mick
slinkymalinky
Great work on your first squid Mick You don't need to bleed squid for the table. When you're ready to clean them, first grab the head and pull it away from the body, It should come away pretty easily. Next you need to skin the body which is also easy. If you grab each of the 'wings', with a bit of pressure you'll be able to pull them away from the tube... they should come away with a little bit of the skin. Then just peel the skin away (it'll tear off in bits) leaving you with a nice white tube. Next you can decide whether you want rings or strips. If you want rings, then turn the tube inside out. If you haven't already busted the ink sack, then remove it, the rest of the gut and the 'pen' carefully and there you have it. Turn it back the right side out and slice away. If you've broken the ink sack (pretty normal) then no probs... just messy. If you want strips, slice carefully through half of the tube so that you can open it out flat... then same deal with cleaning. A strong suggestion... DONT USE FRESH WATER TO CLEAN SQUID. It doesn't do any harm but it marks the flesh, changes the texture and makes it much less yummy. If you don't have seawater, then rinse your squid in water mixed with salt. Hope this helps. Cheers, Slinky
