jdi
just keep dropping bread in, move into the lit part where there is some visibility of the water. you should see them moving around under the bread. i like to watch them swim around my line. i was so bored and me and my mate were so lacking in fish that we turned the drag all the way down and tried to fight the fish. they fight pretty hard. we havent caught shit in forever. i was considering getting one of my old 1-3kg rods and reels spooled with the lowest pound line(do they even make 1/2pound line?) i can find and just chase yellowtail all day
Flightmanager
Havent fished for Yakkas for a while at Balmoral , but I have found that if they are on the chew , the bigger fish in the Harbour are also . I use a tin of cheap cat food , chopped up , and distributed in the water. This will bring them up . ( If the water is clear , you can see them attacking the burley). I use Sabiki or Hyabusa jigs , with a tiny morsel of bait on the hook . Sometimes they go for prawn , other times squid , or even a sliver of sweep ( always lots of them there!) . If they arent hitting one bait , try another . Best time I have found is sunrise , but having said that , we have also done very well at noon . Go figure. I like to use the reef directly in front of the island , depth about 11 feet ( or its metric equivalent). Its about 50 feet in front of the island. Another popular spot is just to the North( right hand side of the same island). Ross
jewiehaven
I too use a sibiki rig, but I just put on some old salted pillie chunks. All wharves I try have nailed more than 10 in an hour or so, they are def at most places and I dont use berley either. Sometimes you gotta play around with the depth as they can be on the surface, mid water or just off the bottom- I usually find them mid water or just off the bottom, dont see too many on the surface unless there is berley around Maybe burley a small amount of sinking berley (like bread +chicken pellets soaked in a small amount of water or like flightmanager said- use some cat food) then see where they are agressively feeding, if you cannot see them on the surface then they will b either mid water or just off the bottom.
