Georges River

hi raiders,

its been a while since my last report due to the fact that I havent been out much during winter and I moved house in april and still settling in.

I fished the georges river on tuesday between picnic point and the m5 bridge for a respectable catch at this time of year. I arrived about 7.30 in the morning and it was a glorious morning, by 9am the sun was shining and I was the only boat on the water and there wasnt a puff of wind - sensational! the fishing started a little slow but after fishing several spots and trying different styles - soft plastics, blades and bait I finally ended up with 5 bream, 1 trevally, and 1 flathead as well as about 10 or a dozen undersize bream 2 undersize blackfish and 1 undersize flounder. They were never going to break any records as far as size is concerned but it was a fun day and a couple of fish for the table! I also saw a guy fishing from the shore in the afternoon who had about 6 or 7 trevally in his keeper bag, I was quite surprised to see so many half decent trevally that far upstream. Sorry but I cant post any photos as my printer/copier is not working at the moment.

Hi pete,

Great report mate. Look forward to your jewie reports this year. I have been doing an extension to my house and not fished much at all this winter. MH has been in shut down mode for months and the jews are not there.

Might get out and try MH next week. Whats the water temp in the Georges ATM.

Cheers, Mike.

Hi Pete good session on the upper Georges mate.... you do catch trevally upriver but mainly in the summer on those heat wave type days when everything else is biting, but the big schools mainly come in in winter, stay within the Bay and the mouth area and don't seem to go too far upriver to breed very often at all ....Fishermen fishing for bream off the wall at Tom Uglys on the Kogarah Bay side and off the timber work around Carrs park pool used to catch the odd soapie every now and then among the trevally and also boat fishermen caught trevally in the Kogarah Bay area fairly often at this time of year when winter was turning into spring... Apart from that, after the good winter fishing this year in the Bay and the river, it's not all that surprising that so many trevally between yourself and the landbased bloke were caught that far up river....

Cheers

gday mike, im not sure of the exact water temp but at one stage i had my shoes off standing in the water and my feet didnt freeze so it cant be too bad!

i rekon about 4-6 weeks and the hawkesbury should start to fire again.

pete.

Keep off our turf and stay in the Hawksberry.

Only kidding mate. I've been fishing the river for years and never caught a trevor that far up.

I bet those trevors came from Lambeth. Well done and :1welcomeani: to our neck of the woods.

CHEERS ESKY

dont worry when october arrives i will be back to my own haunts in the hawkesbury, meanwhile it seems the georges definately fishes better in winter than the hawkesbury so its possible that you guys could bump into me a little bit more over winter!! its a best kept winter secret!!!

gday byron, hows that back of yours going? ready for the up coming jew season I hope.

I am not surprised to hear of trevally around tom uglys but where i fished is a lot further upstream, but having said that, i know of at least 3 salmon caught at wisemans ferry so stranger things have happened i guess.

pete.

That sounds like great fun and a fair haul.

Just out of interest do most people eat fish this far up the Georges?

No toxin concerns?

I ate some for dinner tonight! i guess as long as its in moderation it shouldnt be a problem.

Hi Pete sounds like you had a great session, I'd be happy with half of that.

Never fished that far up the Georges myself. Can you recommend any tips or areas where to start? Cheers

there is a very reefy section near deep water speedboat club that fishes quite well for bream.
