phild
G Day cyber fishers its been a while since I added my last post and a lot has happened since then. The last time i wrote i told of my boat sinking of the heads of Sydney. Well after several legal stoshes with the laywers and many protracted phone conversations with the insurance company Im happy to report that I now have a cheque in my hot little hand. Although its not for the amount that was agreed on in the policy it will do and now Im just looking forward to going boat shopping and getting back out on the water. Its hasnt been all bad thought, after another long saga with which I wont bore you with all the details I was priveleged enough to be able to join fly fishing supremo Dean Butler and mutiple world record holder Tom Evans on a charter just prior to the Port Stephans inter club. To say this was an awsome days fishing for me would be a huge understament. Most people would know the exploits of dean Butler as being the god father of adventure sports fishing in this country and to be fishing with probably the two best fly fishermen in the world was unreal. Although we didnt land any of the fish hooked (we were chasing 120kg fish on 6kg tippet so you lose a lot more than you win) to be involved with a crew of that calibre was an unforgetable experince. On the day we managed to tease up 4 fish including a strped marlin plus its bigger brother of about 120kilos and two smaller blacks. Tom Evans, as the charter client was amazing to watch. Tom has spent over 10yrs and over a millon dollars in pursuit of record marlin on fly and just the day before had broken the long held striped marlin record on 8kg tippet (how he dose it I dont know). Fishing dosent get any more exciting than this as dean and the crew teased these amazing fish right up to the back of the boat so Tom could present his fly. Unfortunaly I didnt have a polaroid filter on the camera so the fish are all but impossible to make out and to catch a photo of a free jumping marlin takes a lot more skill and luck than i have but i promise you they are there. All in all this was an absolutley terrific day and getting to pick at the brains of someone like Dean and Tom was a real thrill. Dean was an absolute gentleman and fantastic value and I thank him so much fo the day. So hope you like the photos and as promised i will put up some photos of my beloved sally may she rest in peace. phild
Yeah thanks Jocool and knappers, it was a real buzz like i said you can just make out the big stripey in the top photo almost centred between Tom and Beau with the teaser rod in his hands ( I know it very hard). As for boats Im not sure a couple of things i now consider essential critera such as positive bouancey or at least a self draining deck. id like something thats obviously big enough to get to the close offshore reefs and possibly a little further on the good days. Newish would also be good, reliability in the engine department is as always a big factor. Apart from that Im not too fixated on makes and models my price range is between 15k to maybe 20k any suggestions. By the way here she is my first love sally she really had been a labour of love and although she dosent look at her best in the photo she really was a top boat. Guest Jocool
Good luck in the search. If you still have your trailer, you could save a bit of money by utilising that!
