Berleyguts
It looks like I will have to go to Canberra with work for a few days this week. One of the days, I expect a 2.15am start so a suitably early finish. I am thinking of throwing the fly rod in the car, hoping to squeeze in a brief afternoon session (why sit back in the hotel, eh?). This is the fly rod I've had for about 5 years and am yet to christen. Does anybody have any pointers with where to go? Somewhere on the Cotter River perhaps? I could possibly throw in the spin stick (I'm more used to spinning for trout) but the fly rod is easier to hide! Thanks, Baz
arpie
Hi Baz You can spin for Cod over near Duntroon - there are redfin in the lake too. I've never caught anything there yet tho! Am going down on Wed for a week (Keith is doing the 1/2 Ironman there next weekend.) Good luck Roberta

I have sent you a PM with my mobile no. I don't know whether I will get enough free time, as everyone wants a piece of you when you visit from head office but I will try and throw the flick stick in and a few lures (rather than the fly rod which I don't really know how to use!) just in case. Maybe Wednesday afternoon? I will be staying right in the CBD on Northbourne, tomorrow and Wednesday night, back to Sydney Thursday after lunch. Haven't finished much for natives (other than bass) particularly landbased with lures. Cheers, Baz
arpie
Hi guys Sorry - I won't be down now till Thus afternoon (and will be knackered after driving from Forster) then up early Fri morning to take our host to hospital! I wasn't even planning on taking fishing gear this time ..... but I may just throw one in, just in case! Keith will be down at registration on the lake on Sat & the race is on Sun, so I can fish whilst waiting for him to register or return from each leg of the race! From memory I think Simon has a freshwater savvy member friend in Canberra who posted quite a few photos of a plethora of his catches down there on Fishraider at one time which included stacks of oversize Redfin literally hanging off pallets and there was a friendly invite to other members who were heading down to Canberra or thinking of fishing the lake or the two rivers to go down there and look him up.. it's always a good idea for coastal fishermen to go out with a gun freshwater fisherman at least once in their lifetime particularly when they might be new to an area or stay in towns where they have only been used to fishing the most convenient spots in areas where freshwater rivers either have easy to access or public areas close to town such as popular spots with other public facilities and busy boat access etc ... Berleyguts
Tom (Thomo) sent me a PM yesterday suggesting I try spinning HBs along the southern side of the lake between the National Gallery and the Commonwealth Bridge, so I tried there yesterday afternoon. It was pretty blustery and a bit of rain but I managed a very respectable redfin after about 15 minutes of casting, right behind the National Gallery. I was stoked! Report and pics when I get back to Sydney and can download them. Cheers, Baz
