Fuel Gauge Sender Not Reading Correctly

Hello fellas,

Been in the mood for workin on the boat and there a problem that i would like to fix as its bugs me when you dont know excalty how much petrol you got in the tank after a day out on the water.

I just pulled out the sender today and the problem its having is that he doesnt read a full tank when its full. The most it reads is 3bars and flashes empty when the tank is 3/4 full. Havin a look the float it kinda looks abit shady, and the sender arm seems abit tight when im moving it. Raising the float to full position only give me 3/4 bar on the gauge. Is there a quick fix for this problem???

Bloke at the boating store say it will cost around 150bucks from yammaha or to repair will cost you about the same. Can these things cost that much??!!! He did point me to a bussiness called VDO but they are asking abit to fix the sender. Would anyone know of another place that could fix this problem hopefully for a cheaper price??? I live in the liverpool region

thanks
