You should use the specified line rating for the reel (its written on the reel) and also match your rod with reel, this way the hole system is in sync and should feel good when your using it.

Or better yet, IF you want a better advice, tell us what baitcaster it is, what rod you got, what fish you plan to target and where are you fishing from.

thanks for the info and to answer your question i have a pflueger illusion reel and a diawa D cast rod and i hope to be catching flathead and bream at north narabeen lakes.
